18th Annual Mifepristone Medical Abortion Meeting

Date
June 6th, 2016

New York, NY, June 6-7

Gynuity welcomed over 100 clinicians, researchers, donors, women’s health advocates and pharmaceutical representatives from over 20 countries to New York for the 18th annual mifepristone medical abortion meeting, with the theme “Mifepristone Medical Abortion: Breaking Boundaries to Expand Access.” Domestic and global updates were provided by participants as well as information about new science and practice innovations designed to increase access to this critical technology. Some of the timely topics discussed during small group breakout sessions included maximizing the potential of telemedicine to increase access to MA, ensuring contraceptive choice and access when MA service delivery moves out of clinics and into women’s hands and how to support increasing legal access to abortion services for women desiring abortion in the midst of the Zika crisis. The second day of the meeting focused on issues relevant to later medical abortion, with a range of dynamic speakers sharing perspectives on how the concept of ‘trimesters” shapes abortion discourse, access and services, sustainable models for ensuring access to second trimester abortion and service delivery opportunities and innovation. We thank our friends and colleagues for another successful meeting!
