Beginning in 2016, Gynuity launched the first direct-to-patient telemedicine abortion service in the U.S., called TelAbortion (www.telabortion.org). Patients accessing this service consult with an abortion provider by videoconference, obtain screening tests at facilities close to them, and receive the medications by mail. For the substantial proportion of patients who find it challenging to go to an abortion clinic due to distance, scheduling difficulties, harassment, and other reasons, TelAbortion can offer greater convenience and privacy. This project description summarizes how TelAbortion works, and shares some preliminary findings.
