13th Annual Mifepristone Medical Abortion Meeting
- Date
- June 6th, 2011
On June 6-7, Gynuity held the 13th annual meeting on mifepristone medical abortion in New York City, Mifepristone Medical Abortion: Thinking Outside the Box. The meeting was attended by over 100 clinicians, researchers, women’s health advocates, donors and pharmaceutical representatives from the U.S. and over a dozen countries. The audience actively participated in the meeting contributing information about new research and evidence-based practice on medical abortion in the U.S. and internationally, as well as updates on legal and political challenges and relevant regulatory issues. Topics addressed in breakout sessions include involvement of lower-level providers in MA service provision, MA at later gestational ages, and home use of mifepristone. The second day of the meeting was dedicated to addressing alternative follow up schemes that may reduce the need for every woman to return for an in-clinic visit. Presentations on this topic included the use of selective sonography and semi-quantitative pregnancy tests, telephone follow up and the perspectives of women, providers and services.
