Annual Mifepristone Medical Abortion Meeting 2010

Date
June 7th, 2010

Gynuity held the 12th annual meeting on mifepristone medical abortion in New York City, Mifepristone Gone Global: Connecting international strategies and evidence for safer abortion. The meeting was attended by over 100 clinicians, researchers, women’s health advocates, donors and pharmaceutical representatives from the U.S. and over a dozen countries. The audience actively participated in the meeting contributing information about new research and evidence-based practice on medical abortion in the U.S. and internationally, as well as updates on legal and political challenges and relevant regulatory issues. Topics addressed in breakout sessions include service delivery implications for early medical abortion, alternatives to in-person follow-up, increasing knowledge about medical abortion and how medical abortion changes the discourse on abortion. The second day of the meeting was dedicated to addressing the role of mifepristone where other medical abortion regimens exist, including presentations on preliminary results of new research comparing mifepristone-misoprostol regimens to misoprostol-alone regimens for first and second trimester abortion.
