
Dissemination Meeting “Improving safe abortion services in Uzbekistan"

Gynuity convened a dissemination meeting on the results of “Acceptability and feasibility of medical abortion in Uzbekistan: A study of 400 µg sublingual misoprostol following 200 mg mifepristone for abortion up to 63 days gestation” conducted in three clinics in Tashkent, and a first and second trimester medical abortion training for obstetricians/gynecologists from Tashkent. The dissemination meeting was attended by 65 participants including representatives from the Ministry of Health, local and international NGOs, medical providers and other key stakeholders. MoH deputy minister welcomed all participants and highlighted the importance of expanding medical abortion services throughout the country. The dissemination meeting agenda included a presentation from the Ministry of Health on the current situation on elective termination of pregnancy in Uzbekistan. Gynuity staff gave presentations on the organization’s current programs of activity, and the results of 400 µg sublingual misoprostol study. The meeting was followed by 1.5-day training on medical abortion to increase awareness of the method among local providers and strengthen ob/gyn capacities to provide MA services. Thirty one obstetricians/gynecologists participated in the training.
