European Society of Contraception and Reproductive Health Global Conference

On May 22-25, 2013 Gynuity staff participated in the First Global Conference on Contraception, Reproductive and Sexual Health, in Copenhagen, Denmark. Gynuity organized a session entitled “Improving and increasing access to medical abortion services in Eastern Europe and Central Asia”. The session aimed to explore how medical abortion services have been introduced in this region, using specific examples of policies, challenges, and research from Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan, and consisted of four presentations:

  • Using research to increase access to medical abortion: Moldova story – Dr. Rodica Comendant, Senior Consulting Associate, Gynuity
  • Promoting a demedicalized and woman-centered model of medical abortion – Ingrida Platais, Program Research Coordinator, Gynuity
  • Extending outpatient medical abortion services through 70 days’ gestation – Erica Chong, Senior Program Associate, Gynuity
  • Responding to restrictions on abortion practices and political threats in Ukraine – Galina Maistruk, Women Health and Family Planning, Ukraine
