Joint Misoprostol Studies Dissemination Meeting- Kampala, Uganda

Date
January 31st, 2013

Following the completion of three studies on the community use of misoprostol in Uganda, the Ministry of Health requested a joint dissemination with the aim of aggregating the evidence generated in the country, discussing study findings, and developing a way forward on the actions to manage PPH at community level. Gynuity Health Projects and colleagues from the University of Liverpool and Makerere University presented the findings from “MamaMiso: A study of self-administered misoprostol to prevent bleeding after childbirth in the community.” Study findings were also shared by the Regional Center for Quality in Healthcare and PACE Uganda. Following the dissemination meeting the group decided to recommend to the MCH cluster of the Ministry of Health that they revise the existing policy and guideline to introduce antenatal distribution of misoprostol for PPH prevention at the community level.
