Workshops on Misoprostol for Ecuadorian Ministry of Health

Date
September 30th, 2009

The Ministry of Health invited Gynuity Health Projects and Family Care International to co-organize workshops in the Ecuadorian cities of Cuenca and Guayaquil to disseminate study findings from two trials recently conducted in Ecuador on the use of misoprostol for treatment of postpartum hemorrhage and incomplete abortion. Approximately 50 obstetricians and gynecologists who reside in and around the cities of Cuenca and Guayaquil participated in each of these workshops. The purpose of these meetings was to educate providers about the new MoH norms on maternal health care, as well as disseminate new available evidence on the use of misoprostol. Presentations on the new norm and recent findings on the use of misoprostol were followed by discussion among providers and MoH officials on the policy and program implications of incorporating new information into guidelines and practice in Ecuador.
