Training for Study of Antibiotics following Medical Abortion

Date
September 7th, 2012

Gynuity held a training in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for a new study that seeks to compare the side effects between women who are prescribed antibiotics following medical abortion to those who are not and assess the adherence of women to prescribed antibiotic regimens. A seven-day course of doxycycline is commonly prescribed to women in the U.S. after medical abortion, however the effectiveness of this treatment at reducing post-abortion infection is unclear and the experiences of these women is missing from the existing evidence. The study sites participating in this study are: Planned Parenthood of Mid and South Michigan; Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota; the Institute for Family Health; the Women’s Health Center at NYU/Bellevue Hospital Center; and the Feminist Women’s Health Center.
