2013 International Conference on Family Planning

November 2013, Gynuity staff travelled to Addis Ababa to attend the 2013 International Conference on Family Planning. Colleagues shared results from 2 studies in Africa on Postabortion Care. The presentations highlighted efforts to scale up post abortion care at lower level facilities with an emphasis on facilities that were unequipped to offer treatment for PAC. By including lower level providers, and those who previously only offered family planning counseling, PAC treatment and family planning services were integrated allowing for closer follow-up and greater support for women along the continuum of care. This task shifting of comprehensive postabortion care services, has the potential to reduce the burden on the higher level system, particularly in places with limited providers and resources.
