Expansion Phase for Misoprostol for PAC Introduction in Veracruz, Mexico

Date
July 15th, 2012

In June and July of 2012, Gynuity worked with the Secretariat of Health in Veracruz, Mexico to orient and train over 140 health care providers and administrators of 28 hospitals from 3 regions to integrate a protocol using misoprostol for treatment of incomplete abortion. Results from an earlier pilot in the Centro de Especialidades Médicas, a third level referral hospital in Xalapa, were presented, along with results from other participating hospitals in Puebla and Querétaro states. Each hospital committed to train relevant hospital staff and to document all cases of women treated with the new protocol. Follow up meetings will be convened 3-4 months after protocol introduction to review successes and challenges to date.
