
Improving safe abortion services in Tbilisi, Georgia

Gynuity convened a dissemination meeting on the results of a double-blind, randomized study of 400mcg versus 800mcg buccal misoprostol following mifepristone 200mg for medical abortion up to 63 days LMP conducted in three clinics in Tbilisi. The dissemination meeting was attended by 50 participants including First Lady of Georgia, Chairperson of the Georgian National Reproductive Health Council, representatives from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Affairs, local and international NGOs, medical providers and other key stakeholders.
The meeting was followed by a training on medical abortion to increase awareness of the method among local providers and strengthen ob/gyn capacities to provide MA services. Twenty four ob/gyns from Tblisi and two neighboring cities participated in the training.
