Meeting on Preeclampsia in South Asia

Date
February 1st, 2012

On February 1, 2012 Gynuity Health Projects and Government Medical College Nagpur co-hosted a one-day meeting entitled “New Vistas, New Visions: Research on Preeclampsia and Eclampsia in South Asia” in Nagpur, India. The meeting brought together approximately 40 experts working in the region to share research updates, brainstorm about new directions in the field, and exchange information and materials. Speakers provided an overview of the problem of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia in South Asia and discussed new technologies for detection and treatment, alternative magnesium sulfate regimens, and community-based interventions for management of hypertension in pregnancy. The meeting was the final activity in a project examining the introduction of treatment with IV magnesium sulfate using a manually operated, low-tech monitoring device, the Springfusor® pump. The project was supported by a grant from The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
