Review of Gynecologic Clostridial Infection: Cases, Research, and Political and Social Impact
Faculty reviewed information on Clostridial infections from 1977-2011, including current research, and present work from a multi-site prevalence study of Clostridium carriage in reproductive-age women conducted by Gynuity and local colleagues. They discussed national and international political concerns that arose following the initial fatal Clostridium toxic shock cases post medical abortion, and addressed personal, clinical, and organizational impacts upon providers, researchers, and advocates that occurred as a result of these infections.
