
New Technologies for Menstrual Regulation: Experience in Bangladesh

Gynuity and ICDDR,B co-hosted a dissemination seminar entitled “New Technologies for Menstrual Regulation: Experience in Bangladesh”in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dr. Begum Dilruba, Director General, Directorate General of Family Planning of Bangladesh, served as the Chief Guest for the occasion. Dr. AKM Mahbubur Rahman, Line Director, CCSDP & Director, MCH-S, Directorate General of Family Planning and Dr. ABM Jahangir Alam, Director, PHC & Line Director, ESD, Directorate General of Health Services served as Special Guests. The preliminary results of a study conducted there by Gynuity and colleagues suggest that mifepristone-misoprostol is acceptable and feasible for introduction into menstrual regulation services in Bangladesh. Participants including government officials, members of the national medical societies, and representatives of local NGOs discussed the study results and their implications for introduction into the national program. The study findings were also presented to a group of over 50 obstetricians and gynecologists at an advocacy meeting organized by the Obstetrical and Gynecological Society of Bangladesh on the following day.
