Dissemination Meeting “Improving safe abortion services in Georgia”

Gynuity convened a dissemination meeting on the results of “Acceptability and feasibility of medical abortion in the Imereti and Ajara regions of Georgia: A study of 400 µg buccal misoprostol following 200 mg mifepristone for abortion up to 63 days gestation.” The study was conducted in two clinics in Batumi and Zestafoni. Sixty participants attended the dissemination meeting including representatives from Ajara Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, local and international NGOs, a pharmaceutical company, medical providers and other key stakeholders. The Ajara MoH deputy minister welcomed all participants and highlighted the importance of expanding medical abortion services in the region. The dissemination meeting agenda included a presentation from the Ministry of Health on the current situation on elective termination of pregnancy in Georgia. Gynuity Health Projects presented on their current programs of activity, as well as the results of 400 buccal miso study. The meeting was followed by the training on medical abortion to increase awareness of the method among local providers and strengthen ob/gyn capacities to provide MA services. Twenty six obstetricians/gynecologists from Batumi and neighboring cities participated in the training.
