Dissemination Meetings in Senegal on PPH Study

Date
January 31st, 2014

In January, 2014, Gynuity Health Projects and ChildFund Senegal held national and regional dissemination meetings to share findings from the recently completed community based trial that examined the use of misoprostol (600 mcg oral) or oxytocin (10 UI) via Uniject® for prevention of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). The study demonstrated that both uterotonics can effectively and safely be used by auxiliary midwives (matrones) working in village level health huts. The meetings, one in the capital, and one in each of the districts where the study took place, were attended by representatives from the Ministry of Health and the national/regional Pharmacy Unit as well as several local and international organizations. Recommendations were made based on the study results and proposals for scale-up were made at each of the meetings.
