National Dissemination Meeting in Ecuador
- Date
- April 30th, 2009
In partnership with the Ministry of Health in Ecuador, Gynuity organized a national dissemination meeting in April 2009 to share the results of a clinical trial conducted at two sites in Quito, Ecuador on treatment of incomplete abortion with misoprostol. The study compared 600 mcg oral misoprostol to standard surgical care (MVA) for treatment of incomplete abortion at Hospital Gineco-Obstetrico Isidro Ayora, a large public tertiary care maternity hospital, and a small, private clinic, the Hospital del Dia, which is part of the Cemoplaf network of primary- and secondary-level clinics. The study results concur with other research on 600 mcg oral misoprostol and show a high efficacy and acceptability profile. The dissemination meeting was attended by approximately 75 people including the study team, health care providers from each region of Ecuador, women’s health advocates, and representatives from the Ministry of Health, local and international NGOs, and universities.
